bullet Robert WHITEFORD Photo was Photographed on 7 Oct 1909. A Scottish researcher into psychic phenomena, James Coates, sent locks of his hair and his wife's hair to Edward Wyllie,an american, who was living and working in Los Angeles. Wyllie used the locks of hair in spirit photographs, and one of the resulting spirits was recognized as Mrs. Coates' grandmother. This earned Wyllie an invitation to England, where his work was studied by Coates.

This photograph shows Robert Whiteford, a photographer who--like Coates--lived in Rothesay, Scotland. It is one of two taken in Coates' house by Wyllie in October of 1909. The entire procedure was conducted under the scrutiny of both Coates and Whiteford, who is described as a skeptic. Reproductions of the photographs, and the story of their production, are in Coates' book, Photographing the Invisible, published in 1911

"Your dad, Bob, was 7 years my senior and did not bother with his kid brother too much. His hobby was building model airplanes which he also taught me to do. He was very athletic and an excellent baseball player -- short stop. He also played football. At one time, all 4 of us brothers shared the same bedroom. Andy and Jim in one bed, Bob and I in the other. That caused some problems, but also some laughs. You see, we all lived through the Great Depression. Bob was drafted, one of the first. He did not care for the Army and had no wish to be a commissioned officer. I have no knowledge of him being involved in military intelligence, but your mother claims he was. "
